I started showing in 1976 when my parents bought their first Boxer, it didn’t take long and I was hooked. I carried on showing and in 1979 my parents bought their first Boston Terrier. (Glenfolly Mr Chips bred by the late Chris Coley) That was my first introduction to Boston’s. My parents had several Boston’s over the years, but I carried on showing Boxers. Dogs were the only thing I was really interested in and went on to work in boarding and breeding kennels. I didn’t show much when my daughter was growing up but always had a Boxer at home.
In 1999 Emma my daughter wanted a dog of her own and a Boxer was her first choice, I said no as she had been very poorly and would be too much for her to handle. I persuaded her to have a Boston. Annette Strachen-Abel lived close by then and I asked her if she knew anyone with puppies and she suggested (the late) Mary Welch.
Off we all went to Birmingham Annette & Keith Strachen-Abel, Emma and I, when we arrived at Mary’s she had two litters and we picked a beautiful bitch puppy. Mary put a dot of red nail polish on her head and she became Apposyte Heaven Sent (Millie). Millie was shown as a puppy and then family commitments with my Partner meant wasn’t shown again until she was much older and went on to have a good show career as a veteran.

I couldn’t understand all this getting up early in the morning travelling miles to attend a dog show. Karen asked me one day if I would like to go with her so I did. I was very apprehensive, but for all you dog showing people out there you will understand I was then hooked and asking about the next show. I have been the backroom girl doing the running until this year 2013 I have started showing. Still have lots to learn but will get there. When Karen’s daughter had her first Boston I was smitten and have been ever since. We then went into partnership with our dogs.
The first litter of Lovewell Boston Terriers puppies were born in 2007.
